The Local Content Conference 2025 opened on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, with an evening of networking and collaboration at the Courtyard Marriott, Paramaribo. Themed “Financing the Future: Local Content, Green Growth, and Partnerships,” the three-day conference convenes leaders from government, industry, finance, and civil society to chart a collective path toward sustainable growth and inclusive local participation in Suriname’s evolving energy landscape.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Orlando Olmberg, President of the Suriname Energy Chamber (SEC), called for unity of purpose among all stakeholders to establish a clear national direction anchored on shared goals and tangible results.
“We are here to find common ground; government, private sector, unions, and civil society; to define where we are heading as a nation,” said Mr. Olmberg. “What we need is action. Together, we can build a plan that secures the future of our country and creates opportunities for generations to come.”
Mr. Olmberg emphasized the importance of local content as a bridge for inclusive growth, urging collaboration across sectors to strengthen workforce development, technology transfer, and community participation. He also highlighted the Block 58 Offshore Oil Project, operated by TotalEnergies in partnership with APA Corporation (Apache), as a major platform for advancing local participation and capacity building within Suriname’s energy industry.
The opening night provided a relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere for speakers, delegates, and invited guests to connect and set the tone for the discussions ahead. Conversations among participants centered on aligning Suriname’s energy ambitions with green growth priorities and ensuring local stakeholders play a leading role in shaping the nation’s development path.
The Local Content Conference 2025 continues from October 21 to 23, featuring plenary sessions and technical panels on investment frameworks, sustainability strategies, policy alignment, and cross-sector partnerships for inclusive local participation.
